Re: Iron Man MkXXXVIII Igor

Right, time to start a new build and going to do the MkXXXVII "Igor".  Had originally thought of doing this is red instead of blue, the original artwork for the film shows Igor in red and I was thinking Hulkbuster at the time, but as Dragon are going to do the proper Hulkbuster I`m going to stick to the on screen look now.

So quick look at the parts to start with.

First thing you notice is the size of the box which is about twice the size of a regular Dragon kit.

There are a good number of sprues inside and some of the parts a single pieces.  Didn`t take pictures of them all because that`s boring, but here are a couple of shots.

Instructions are typical Dragon and bit vague.

And on the back is a colour picture this time of the final paint finishes with call outs.  Basically metallic blue and silver.

There is also a small sheet of decals for the final detailing.

So quick comparison between this and the normal Iron Man suits in one aspect:

So bit different! The hands on this are really big in scale though and the whole suit isn`t proportionally that much bigger. The hands are made of the funny vinyl stuff that Dragon uses and are moulded as a single piece.

So decided to make a start on a couple of bits and got a bit carried away.  This goes together really quickly and nicely.

A wire has been run through for the lighting in the chest and head (they`re the only 2 for this one). Really chunky this one!  More my style.

And with the head added.  The parts of the head aren`t glued up yet but everything goes together really nicely.  The whole torso was put together with no glue to start with to make sure I had things right this time. Held together really nicely and only a couple of very small gaps.

And finally for this post a quick comparison of the head sizes.

So that`s about twice the size.

Going to enjoy this one I think!

One thing that is odd is that there is no base that comes with this kit.  Hoping that one of the Avengers bases (Capt or Hulk) will fit this one so that all my Iron Man kits match up.  Strange that this isn`t included.

Bit more progress last night.  Arms pretty much done and assembly on the legs started.

Trying out the base which came with Hulk for size and looks about right.  Shame they didn`t provide one.

And for comparison:

My word, I didn`t really he was that big! Do you reckon the Hulkbuster is a similar size or would that be even bigger?

I am loving your Iron Man "House Party" - how many are there in total?

Yes, he`s certainly a big fella.  Not so much the height but the bulk that makes he such a bloater.  Igor is about the same size as the Dragon model of the Hulk from Avengers but looking at the trailer it looks like the Hulkbuster is bigger than Hulk is, so assuming he`ll be bigger again.

Had an upset little one last night (and the other half was out for the evening), and it took hours to get her calmed down.  So didn`t get as much done on Igor as I had hoped, but did get assembly completed.

Hands don`t fix in tightly so they`re left off for now, also so they don`t get in the way when doing the painting.

Will get the lighting rigged up tonight and then after a very small amount of seam filling I can make a start on painting.

Sorry Mark just realised I never answered this bit.

Once Igor is finished I`d have done 5 suits (Igor, Midas, Starboost, War Machine and the MkVII suit from Avengers).  Still to do in the stash are Hot Rod, Heartbreaker, Silver Centurion, Mk42 and Iron Patriot.  But there`s going to be Hulkbuster and the Mk43 from the next Avengers movie to add to that.  So that`d make 12 I think.

The only one I didn`t get from the Iron Man 3 run was the battle damaged Mk42.  Wish I`d picked it up but hard to get hold of now.

Going to keep me busy for a while.

Hoping to finally get our study sorted out and decorated this summer.  It`s basically been a store room for a few years but I really want to get a proper desk in there to give the little one somewhere to do her homework etc.  But will get shelving up at that time to get all these on proper display as well as some of the old builds which are still packed up in the loft.

Managed to pause the Ultron trailer to get an image of Hulk and Hulkbuster together.  Yes, Hulkbuster is significantly bigger.

I`m really impressed the rate you are cranking these out!

Igor`s about the same size as Hulk, so I guess HB would be nearly double. Now THAT would be an impressive kit!

It honestly doesn`t feel that quick on each one and loads still to do.

Haven`t been in the mood the last couple of nights but hope to progress a bit over the weekend at least.

Some progress.

All assembled and it`s been primed and given a coat of metallic blue.  The LEDs are in the head but just need to be sorted out for the chest. These ones were a little too close to front and was producing distinct hotspots.  I`ve moved it back and now OK but needs to have light blocked up again.

Currently working on blocking in the silver areas and then will need the hazard stripes adding.

Getting there!

Only little bit of progress over the weekend but all the silver is now on and need to finalise the lighting and do the stripes now.
