Having been a recipient of a rather nice new toy, I have spent a few hours this evening chilling out and putting together the most excellent Mercury-class Battlestar.

Nice kit so far, although I`ve only done a little bit.

Here it is at the shipyards next to a Galactica-class Battlestar that has yet to have its hull plating applied ...

As you can see, it is quite a `Beast`!

You`re ahead of me...

Will watch with interest. What`s your plan for the painting?

It took 10 minutes to get to that point - the underside of the alligator head looks tricky as it`s a bit bowed and will be tough to keep straight.
My plan for the painting is to do it some time in 2014!
It`s bloody huge though and deserves to be ultra-detailed and lit, but I`m just building it straight out of the box for a change.
The Galactica is the Revell moulding which isn`t too bad at all

Will be interesting to see if you end up with any differences between the pair when finished.

Is that a unfinished Viper on the lower shelf as well?........

Spent a little more time - marrying up the two halves is quite tricky but generally a nice tight fit once done. Will post more pics later.

The Viper is the Revell one - playing around with the fit at the moment ...

Looking good Mark.

Now Christmas is out of the way I might get some time to work on mine.

Still thinking it needs decals like the ones I used for the Galactica to break up the surface.  Will be thinking about doing something very soon towards that.  Probably just a generic set which will need cutting in to the panels.

I think the Paragraphix PE set will make it pop - especially if you are lighting it. Some tiny gaps here and there where the main body joins up, but nothing huge so far.

It`s the biggest kit I`ve worked on and I`m finding it really nice to build.

Tempted to look at other things to bulk out the Colonial fleet.

Assume the original series Galactica is in the same scale as this one?

That`s what it says. I have a resin Pegasus lying around somewhere which was a bit crap (the landing bays didn`t fit at all) but might offer up some parts that could be worked into something in the light cruiser range.

Will finish these first though (honest!)
