There`s also two other views of it on the sheet, one from the front and on a slight angle. Both are quite amusing.

The smaller version of the Pegasus shown here is the 1:9600 Fantastic Plastic version (in scale with the little Alliance models Galactica). Although a relatively nice kit it has its problems, not least the appalling fit on the landing bay end caps.

Anyway, I`ve been trying to sell it for several years and with no takers I tried to build it a while ago. Didn`t get very far (the landing bays pissed me off too much) so back it went into the box.

Fast forward to now and I think it would make a decent donor kit for at least two smaller Colonial ships, possible frigates or fast recon scouts. Not exact, smaller, clones but ships that look like they could be from the fleet in overall form (look at the various ships in the Ghost Fleet in Blood & Chrome).

Anyway, just a musing for now.

... and then I got distracted ...

The job of carving out the engine details on the Triton was proving tedious, so I turned my attention to a couple of other things.

First of all I decided that the ships I`m building aren`t from the BSG Universe as seen in the TV series. In my mind, the only way I could justify this sort of Colonial fleet was if it took place in an alternate timeline. So I figured that something happened that caused the Cylon attack on the 12 Colonies to fail in some shape or form. Perhaps they attacked too early, perhaps Baltar`s "Command Navigation Program" wasn`t adopted as standard, it doesn`t matter. All that matters is that it wasn`t the carnage that the Cylons expected and instead of an all-out victory, it has turned into a protracted conflict in the same way the First Cylon War did.

So, although Scorpion Shipyards were attacked, it was far less devastating than it could have been. Far more of the fleet survived the initial attack and quickly organised a counter offensive against the Cylon fleet. Over the next 6 months it has turned into a war similar to the First Cylon War with losses and wins on both sides, but with an active Colonial Fleet split into Battlestar Groups fighting across the system and outlying regions of space.

So, the ships I am building are part of Battlestar Group 39 which is comprised of:

The Mercury-class Battlestar Triton (BS-25), which is the Group`s Command and Control ship; the Jupiter-class Battlestars Acropolis (BS-47) and Cerberus (BS-13) as well as several support vessels.

The first of these vessels to have its hull laid down is the Medusa (GS-17), a Gorgon-class Gunstar (basically an escort cruiser). This vessel has no dedicated Viper launch system, and is essentially a mobile gun platform.

This is essentially the FP Pegasus chopped up and squashed together! I have yet to add greeblie detail to the blank areas and need to work out some sort of shuttle bay. Trying to go with more of a classic BSG look and feel with the shallow alligator head and FTL engine block.

Here she is next to one of the Jupiter-class Battlestars so you can see the difference in size.

Lovin` that Mark!

That would make a good group build, a colonial fleet made of alternate designs.

Thanks!

Did a bit more on it this afternoon. Figured it needed some sort of shuttle bay or something, I found a kit part that looks fab, after much chopping, carving, sticking and sanding. I also found the original FTL drive part for the FP Pegasus and as it looks quite different from the larger one, I figured it would do fine as-is.

Can you guess what this part is? Here`s a better shot and hopefully you can see the two carved out shuttle bays near the bow.
