Re: Viper evolution

Well, I have actually done some modelling this week! Having assembled the classic BSG Viper (the new Moebius one) at the MK show last week, I wanted to crack on with getting it finished. It also inspired me to finish up the Mk 7 version (Revell issue) that I had lying around half built.

Of course, I can`t do something straight out of the box, so I wanted to tie it in to the new BSG universe a bit more. Not much in the way of modifications (using a new BSG style pilot, thanks to Pete, and adding chunky RCS thrusters [WAVE parts]) so decided to have a unifying paint scheme on all three (I have a finished Mk 2).

We`ll see how it ends up, but all three will be white with similar red markings (slightly different on each model). Therefore I am calling this a Mk 1 Viper (why not?).

Painting is a bit rough right now, so the next task is to tidy up the lines and then I can decal them both.

Missed this.  That Mk7 looks good in the white.  Going to look stellar when all 3 are together.

Thanks - have been doing some complex masking to tidy up the red markings before putting the final white coat on, adding decals and then beating it up!

Thanks to the nice weather earlier in the week, I managed to put on the top coat on the Mk7. Nissan Arctic White IIRC. Had masked off the red paint, engine block, canopy, nose and used cocktail sticks to mask off the RCS thrusters.

Added decals tonight (a mix of the Mk2 and Mk7), so just waiting for those to dry before making it nice and grubby!

Final job was to apply Pro Modeller Wash and then remove it leaving the panel lines nicely picked out and a layer of grime that works really well (works much better on a glossy surface). Added some battle damage where the decal broke, put the pilot in and the canopy on and the MK 7 is done. Back to the Mk 1 next.

Great stuff. Really liking that red and white scheme. Looks good and the 3 together will be a great display.
