Bandai TIE Fighter

Eric Moore » Sep 8 '16

Still with the Bandai-Bug, i've just gotten this beauty! Same drill as before - tons of intricate parts, lovely detail and the whole thing pushes togther without glue.

Here's where i am so far, the cockpit area is made from 5 parts and there's 15 decals in there, including two of the Imperial cog for the pilots helmet!

I doubt that any of this will be seen when done as i'm not going to light it, but i've painted it anyway.

As the parts are such a good it, it can be push fit, so i painted all the parts while on the sprues and then assembled them. I'm keeping it in these subassemblies while i do the detail work.

There's quite a few different opinions as to which colour to go for, and i've gone with Tamiya Haze Grey, which has far more blue in it than is evident in the photo.

Looks great so far!

This is one of my favorite TIE craft- don't have this kit yet so I am taking notes

A highly recommended kit! Only drawback is the rather clunky stand that these ships have - each ship has its own unique Death Star base, which can interlock to make a diorama, the details are great but are spolit by the whacking great, chunky stand that rises out of it.

Luckily, Bandai also include a detailed plug that you can insert into the stands hole in case you don't need it.

That's what i've done, then drilled a hole, glued in a bit of clear rod that Mark kindly gave me, and topped it off with the connecting piece which slots into the ship.

I like your version of the stand better. The stock arm is rather distracting-

Smashing job.  Looks great on the new stand as well.  Such an odd thing to do and provide such a clunky stand for it.
