Re: ANH Escape Pod?

One thing I need to start working on for my big Star Wars display for next year is a 1:12 scale Escape Pod from the Tantive IV (the one C3P0 and R2D2 crash on Tatooine).  Now I freely admit I`m pretty crap at scratchbuilding and worried about getting something together.

There are some good references available online at http://www.modelermagic.com/?p=10337

But one thing that is worrying me is the size.  It`s been hard to find any specific info but from what I have found it looks like the pod is about 5.5m long which would make it 45cm long at 1:12.  That`s huge and at that size the detail would have to be right.

My other option might be to place the pod further back in the scene to have forced perspective.  This might allow for a toy to be the starting point.  But I`m not sure that makes for such a strong scene and doesn`t reflect the "Looks Sir, Droids!" moment we see on screen.

So having a moment of panic that I`ve been going down a dead-end for this scene and now not sure where to go with it.

All opinions appreciated.

that is pretty massive. getting the cylinders right will be hard enough. the details, not so much as t that scale most of them could be scratchbuilt

the alternative is to use the fantastic plastic kit (edit: its OOP) and push it back.

I could scratchbuild one probably but that big? hmm, its doable.

You would have to find some good source shapes for the angles and cylinders. Either that or turn some wood to make a master.

Studio scale scratch build here but gives you a good idea of what`s involved....

How about this die cast which you could always add detail to......doesn`t state the scale but you could put it in the background....

Actually that could be made to work as it would be part of the forced perspective but would require some in-scale Sandtroopers to go with it.

If it's 15cm and I thought it should be 45cm to be 1:12 scale.  So think that would make it 1:36???

Anyone know if there are any 1:36 figures which could go with it?
