Re: Next Gen Comp: Shuttlepod Type 17 (LOCKED)

Right, here we go with this particular version of a ST shuttle. I`ve been browsing through loads of stuff on-line about the various types and I am sorely tempted to have a go, at some undetermined point in the future, at the Rio Grande or maybe the Rubicon. !/48 scale would allow for some great interior detailing and lighting and...

Ahem. Anyway! I got the shuttle model details from a paper-craft site, Homespun Magixx. Credit is due to Steve Marshall for this great model.

The parts are few and mostly straight forward when translated into plastic. The engine details will be there but simplified; I`m not lighting this at all or doing an interior. The scale has been increased to approximately 1/24. Not sure if I`m meant to add pics to the site (or how) so for now I`ll link to the pics in my photobucket album - hope that`s okay, mods.

Start of the build:

Here are the main hull parts:

Roof mounted units, bare of any detail as yet:

Aft hull panel; got to do a lot of detailing here to get the engine effect:

Here`s the bottom of the hull. To get the various hull shapes I`ve scored the styrene and then creased along the lines to get the sides to fold up, then re-inforced the creases with scrap bits of 2mm x 2mm Evergreen.

Here are the roof and side panels. The model is just under 12 inches long - so my greebly nerves are going off every time I pick the model up. Keep thinking "I could do so much detailing with this!":

So, it`s coming together nice and quick, and it`s a simple shape to get right. My technique is admittedly rough and ready which means there will be a fair bit of filling to be done along the joins, but it`s keeping this build fast. Hope these pics are okay; will delete if needed.

Edit: re-did the pic links so they should show now. Haven`t been able to do anything for the last couple of days so no updates just yet but I`ll endeavour to get something posted soon. Got some updates on the Junk Tank build to post as well as some on my Pod Racer - remembering to actually do so is another thing.

Edit: Nope, no luck with the URL pasting. Just my luck.

Hi Martin

URL and BBcodes don`t work I`m afraid but if you right click on the image in PhotoBucket and copy the image URL you can then click on the camera icon here and select the From URL option and paste in the URL.  That way you can include the image.

But looks like links kind of working above.

Ah ha! Cheers Alun, will do that for the next update. In fact may play around and edit the post now so it works better.

Re: Next Gen Comp: Shuttlepod Type 17 (LOCKED)

Due to having to clear out my den (so the stentorian snores of the Mother-in-Outlaw are contained) it may be a week or two before I can get my new modelling set-up arranged. I`m getting a corner desk to go in the...corner of our bedroom. The spare room I`ve been using is going to be our son`s again so he can have his own space - and escape from the pink nightmare that is his sister`s idea of what a room should look like.

Should be able to get some more work done on this model in a week or two.
