Re: Acclamator Build

Evening all!

Back up on the site so I`ve decided to start something fresh, plus I couldn`t work up any enthusiasm to carry on with any of the started builds on my bench, think I need to give them some space.

So after rummaging through a few boxes to see what caught my fancy I decided on JPG`s Acclamator, because, you know, I need more grey spaceships on my shelves…

The Acclamator was the Republic`s capital ship at the start of the clone wars, followed by the Venator and eventually the Empires Star Destroyer line.

The kit is 1:2256 scale, same as Revell`s Venator and Anigrand`s Star Destroyer, so they make for a nice progression display.

So, there aren`t a huge number of parts to this, no surprise there, as it`s basically just an arrowhead top and bottom hull, some engines and a few detail pieces.

Here they are after clean up. Both hull parts and the bridge module were damaged out of the box, but the hulls only require the bits glueing back in place.

After clean up i decided to crack on with assembly,

First I added the two rear detail pieces, the two gun shaped ones on the right, to the rear bulkhead.

Then I went ahead and glues the two hull halve together. One was slightly warped but nothing you would not expect. The clamp sorted it out. At least I hope so, I`ll find out tomorrow when I release it.

Love that quote Steve.

Looking like a good start.

Bit of a catch up time then. My last post was "I`ll find out tomorrow when I release it.`

That was in August, as it turned out tomorrow was in December, so the glue was well and truly set by the time the clamps came off and everything was reasonably straight.

I went ahead and attached the tail section, bridge and sidewalls and then primed the whole lot with Halfords best. The i went over it with a custom mix of light grey, leaving it slightly uneven to give the surface some interest.

Next I masked off some of the panels and put in some darker tones.

Then I did the same with a lighter colour, though this doesn`t show up as well on the photos.

At this point some madness came over me and I thought it looked a bit...grey, so I decided to add the Republic insignia and stripes to liven it up. I was going to nick the roundels from a Venator kit as they are the same scale, but as I would have to paint the stripes I would need to match the colour to the decal. Instead I decided to just mask and paint all the markings.

Nice build.

With the new film pending I wonder what we`ll get in the way of kits?

Don`t know, but I`m expecting Bandai to go mad releasing stuff. We`ve already had 4 new kits in 2 months and another 3 on the way in the next couple. Makes Fine Molds release schedule look positively glacial.

OK, so the blue masking was so I could spray a fine coat of base colour over the whole thing to tone it down a bit, but keep some of the brighter panels showing through. I also finished up the engines in various greys/metallics and attached them.

After a sealing coat of future I gave it a light oil wash to bring out the details and then into the garage for a spray of dullcoat.

All done on this, a pretty simple build that shouldn`t of taken long but family life and all that stretches these thing out. I nicked the stand of a die cast spitfire model, it will have to do for now. (that means forever!)
