The Future of the Site

I'm sure a lot of you know this quote:

Kirk: My friends, the great experiment: The Excelsior. Ready for trial runs.
Sulu: She's supposed to have transwarp drive.
Scotty: Aye. And if my grandmother had wheels, she'd be a wagon.
Well, much like the Excelsior the SFM:uk site was the great experiment when we relaunched it with the current system managing it.  The idea was to bring in social media type aspects and integrate everything together.  But, sticking to my analogy, we've also been forced to admit that Scotty was right all along and it has not been the great success we were hoping for.
A number of issues have always been known to us but in the last few months some have emerged that we had no idea were happening, including registrations not going back to users and email integration having fallen apart.  Together with the open source nature of the content management system and the relatively low level of support it receives, we just don't feel we can go on with it.
Going forwards we're going to go back to basics.  As the forum is really the main thing that is used we're going to focus solely on that and drop all the whistles and bells, which get so little actual use.  Over the next few weeks we will get the new forum up and running and I will email everyone when we're ready for business.  At that time we will lock off the current site and leave it as reference only. We will do our very best to port everyone over but we'll know better how far we can go with that in due course.
Once the new forum goes live we're also going to throw out a group build to everyone.  The subject will "Fury Road" and will to build a post-apocalyptic vehicle (in 1:24 scale).  More details to come in due course, but get your thinking hats on and maybe drag something out of your collection!
But I would like to thank you all for your support of the site.  We will get things back up and running and make the site somewhere you want to come back to and use.  In the meantime, please do bear with us and if you have any feedback please do let me know on or reply to this thread.
