Re: help with leds and battery

Hi guys got a little lighting project over xmas but not model related but for work.

I`ve got plenty off 18v batterys and an old ammo box and was thinking of turning it into a work light. The plan is to get 12 leds and the resistors wired in and ive got the wiring plan off the net its just the switch and attaching the power source to the leds.

Can anyone suggest a good site that could help me out with this ie pics and exspinations. Im thinking of covering the leds with a perspex shield and putting the switch behind this also with a hole cut out to flix it on and off. The batt will go inside

and hopefully light up the dingy plots in the morning instead of dragging a generator out of the van for an hour. Anyway any suggestions or sites you can suggest would be great.

Also need to know if a serial or parallel array would be brighter.

If only, we only get power if were in flats. This place is in the wilds of Lincolnshire and its timber frame, its just a pain loosing an hour in the morning and an hour when its packing up time and head torches are useless. I just begrudge paying the 100 plus milwalkee tools want for there area lights so thinking i can do it for a lot less and get the satisfaction of building it myself lol.

Would wire them in parallel so that if one goes you don`t lose the whole lot.  Beyond that not got much to suggest.

When we go camping we use some LED panel lights which were only £8 each and are more than enough for what we want.  Might not be good enough for working by but might be worth a look:

LED Lights

They have 30 LEDs and the panels can be adjusted to give you light where you want it.

While you`re on the site don`t forget to order yourself an LED umbrella so you can pretend to be in Bladerunner. Just occurred to me that if you remove the umbrella part you have a lightsabre as well....

That actually looks pretty neat but would be hell on batterys and maybe not robust enough for site work.

Thanks for the link though ill have a dig around there to see if anything else looks like it might work. Had a mid sized battern shaped one that exstended and was really good but got dropped too many times lol
