Re: Lighting ideas?

Hey all,

Been thinking about the next lighting module to produce - just thought I`d canvas some ideas if anyone has any.

There`s a lot of Trek stuff out there, so I`m thinking about something more esoteric... I`ll almost certainly be doing something for the Moebius TOS Cylon Raider when it`s out but will likely be fairly simple - just engines & maybe guns....

Not sure on that one Ant.  I know you have your programmable board which could cover a lot of eventualities.

Maybe something for the Dragon Iron Man kits to make the repulsors power up and down?

How about something for the aliens apc and dropship.

Also how about a lighting rig for some ma.k vehicles.
A general lighting rig for a robot/mech.

Having amassed a good collection of Iron Men I`ve been thinking about this - but having had a first real play with them, there`s very little space inside each figure due to the internal skeleton they use to mount all the armour on.

Static lights would just about be possible, but there`s no room for a pcb for effects.

Lighting the hands will also be tricky as they are one piece rubber castings - and on the later kits, the rubber is very soft which is going to be a bugger all round for painting...

Yeah, got all the new Dragon kits myself (so will be a massive build session once that starts) and having a looks quite a few have fists so wont need lighting there at least.  Think that Starboost, Heartbreaker, Iron Patriot and War Machine all have fists.

Doable though.  This has a 3mm LED stuffed into the wrist and the head of it just projecting out into the palm.

Must get some better pictures of this build.

Could have a board to hide under the base I guess if you really wanted to.

Nice job! Did you just drill right through the hands and wire from the back?

And I assume you discarded the arc reactor piece - shame this wasn`t in clear.

Board in the base is an option, but then you have to run more wires into the kit.

I was thinking reactor effect for heartbreaker, and maybe rear engines for Starboost....

Yes just drilled through the wrist and inserted the LED.

My wiring runs down the model and out the bottom to a 9V battery anyway, so for me it wouldn`t be an issue to have a board in the base.

The reactor was indeed missed out but I printed out a copy on paper and glued it onto the back of the clear part.  With the LED off you can see it but with the LED on it just whites out.  Quick cheat.

Here it is with lights off.

Found the picture I was looking for of how the LEDs where positioned:

Sorry, realising I`m slightly derailing your original thread.  So I`ll put this together into an article for the site.
