Re: Scratchbuild help needed, `Goose` Mad Max bike

Gareth James » Dec 14 '13
Just putting the feelers out if anyone able to help/advise if this is viable. Looking to convert a standard 1/15 Kawasaki KZ 1000 model to Mad Max `Goose` bike (this is the model bike used in the Mad Max movie). The lower fairing was added by the filmmakers and does not come as standard on the bike and subsequently on any model.

I can`t source a donor lower fairing anywhere and my scratchbuilding skills are, well, rubbish.

Any ideas?

gareth,

1/15 is an unusual scale for bike kits.. normally theyre 1/12 or 1/8  so I think you may struggle to get something close to compatible.. getting kits of any that era of bike with a full fairing could be tricky.. Looking at the screen bikes fairing it looks like its definitely off another model that`s been bodged to fit especially where it fits to the underside of the original nose cowl.. I had a look at other bike kits and cant find anything even close to that styling unfortunately.. The seat hump and seat could be built up easily enough but that lower fairing does look like it could be a pain..

I think this is the same model in 1/12 but it is expensive  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AOSHIMA-JAPAN-1-12-KAWASAKI-KZ-1000-Z1-R-KERKER-CUSTOM-/121233144189?pt=UK_ToysGames_ModelKits_ModelKits_JN&hash=item1c3a0ef97d

On the plus side I think its a great idea for a project, cant think of anyone who has done something other than the usual Interceptors or Pursuit cars from the movie so the Bike would be a welcome sight.

Thanks for those guys- I`ve sourced some decals from the movie which I`ll print myself and thought about a figure alongside the bike. `Ghost rider` has a similar outfit which may double for Goose (minus the flaming skull of course).

As to the fairing I`m undergoing a systematic search of the little `uns toyboxes first! you never know!

The scale is an issue as you`ve rightly said Alan.

A cool project. Years ago I had a GPz 750 and had MFP on the fairing ! Haha......Thought I was hot shit and then the Wirral Egg Run happened and loads turned up with it on theirs.....Needless to say, that afternoon I took it off. There is a forum of folks who actually build full size replicas of the bikes and cars from the Mad Max Trilogy. Join it and there will be a model thread on there too !

Thanks Chris- had a good shifty through- some awesome full size replica`s.

The current kit I have is the KZ1000 but a `D` model (which I didn`t realise) and is incorrect- petrol tank different and other bodywork detail. (groan).

Despite a search of the net the fairing is proving elusive and the `goose` replica is gonna have to get in the queue with the orca jaws fishing boat and Robocop dio as projects on hold (sniff..).

However this in the interceptor colours with converted Tamiya rider figure may do it. Not in the movie obviously but with a bit of artistic licence sort of a MFP bike equivalent to the cars?

Interestingly enough my brother had that exact bike many moons ago.. the Ducati, not Gooses bike :-)

They were mostly Z9`s and Z thou`s in that movie. Just look at the year it was made and take a year off and that will be the model you need. The one you have is quite a bit later.
