Moebius can produce NEW 2001 kits

Richard Baker » Jun 9 '16

(Not sure where this should be posted, Mods move as needed)

Moebius Models announced last week they have obtained the license to produce model kits from the film '2001: A Sace Odyessy'

Current plans are to re-release the Moon BUs kit, which they reverse engineered from an unbuilt Aurora reference kit,

re-release the Orion III Space Place (an all new tool they made based on th eold Aurora kit.

They mentioned a possibility of an all new kit of the spacecraft Discovery but things are still in the very early stages.

2001 wsa long considered a lost cause due the large number of people who had some say in how the property would be licensed and little motivation

to cooperate. The simple fact Moebius was able to get the license is astonding.

Everyone has a big wish list of possible kits from this film and things took a very big step forward for possibley seeing some of those in styrene.

Not much chance of that Brian, Moebius are almost 2 years behind

in releasing their BSG Raptor, personally i don't think they will ever release it

From waht I have heard the Raptor is moving along. Not only is it a complicated model wit a full interior but recently Moebius had to renegociate the license to produce BSG kits. The right holders had changed hands and getting things sorted out took longer than expected. Round 2 is famous for announcing then cancelling kits, Moebius is a LOT more certain- it is just the time it takes for production sometimes takes longer.

I am hoping to some new 3001 kits in addition to the repops- that movie has so many spectacular designs!
