Some of you may have come across this book and, if you haven`t, go get one - brilliant articles on brilliant builds, all by a guy called Gary Welsh, who details his amazing recreations of the Rebel Fleet ships in Star Wars.

Boy, the amount of many he`s spent on donor kits is jaw-dropping

Anyway, there`s no way i could afford to amass that amount of kits to follow Gary`s lead, nor have the space to display them when done.

But there was one ship that really caught my eye - a nifty looking thing, that`s obviously got some Saturn V parts as its basis, and a lot smaller than the rest:

Gary says its a tanker and i can see that. I can also see it being part of the Galactica rag-tag fleet and i was really taken with it.

So i thought i`d have a go at making something similar. Not an exact copy, more an "inspired by" piece, using Gary`s design as a jumping off point.

First thing i had to do was get me another Saturn V kit as i`d need two`s of some parts.

Cheapest wasn`t the Airfix one Gary used though, but the Revell version, and i ordered it hoping the parts were similar

Luckily, the most important one was an exact match to my existing Airfix one and here they are glued together - the white one is the new Revell, the cream my 35 year-old Airfix. I`ve also added the dome from the Revell kit, which comes in a nasty metallic grey.

Gary goes to great lengths in the book to name a lot of kits used but sometimes not the why - and here`s a case of learning why he`s added some unknown blocky shapes to this section - its to cover up the whacking great holes.

Been neglegent on updates for this ship and i`m at the primer stage now, so quick recap on the build - using a bicycle pump for the long section as its styrene, more Saturn V parts, SRN4 Hovercraft parts and, more than anything else, the Tamiya 88mm kits - the biggest treasure trove of kit parts i`ve ever come across:

Right, that`s the decals and colours on for the Saturn Ship.

I don`t want to put on any more colours as i want to retain the industrial look.

Know that makes it a tad bland at the moment, but weathering`s next so hopefully things will be broken up and more interesting.

Very nice Eric.  Reckon you only need a moderate amount of weathering there...???

That`s the Saturn Ship done then.

I added a dew more yellow stripes just before weathering to add a bit of colour, then picked a few bits in a Gunmetal Blue once i`d done that to add another bit of colour interest.
